Transformers roadmap — timeline
The huggingface/transformers roadmap board, fused into one timeline and grounded in git.
Bars run from the first commit of the earliest PR to the last commit of the latest , so length is how
long the work really took. Every dot is a PR — hover it for the pull request. Owners sit on the left,
churn on the right, releases along the top.
How to read it
A bar's left edge is the first commit anyone pushed toward that item; its right edge is the last commit or merge.
Solid bars shipped. Bars that fade out on the right are still running — the work has no end date yet.
Dots are the individual PRs; purple dots are still open. Blue ticks along the top are releases,
with v5.0.0rc0 and v5.0.0 called out.
Where the data comes from
Item text and grouping come from the Miro board. Everything measured — PR numbers, titles, descriptions, authors,
states, commit dates, additions/deletions — comes from the GitHub GraphQL API and git log on
main. Model additions are detected from the first commit that creates each
src/transformers/models/<name>/ directory, so the row is exact rather than label-dependent.
Board items shown as what actually happened
“Coding rules to ruff linter” became mlinter (TRF001–TRF057, its own package). “Visual modular” became the
Atlas gallery plus the open modular-v2 PR. “Monkey patching API” shipped as the model patching API .
“Explore transformers → mlx” shipped as huggingface/transformers-to-mlx. CircleCI is gone — the
config is a deliberate no-op. Items marked not started have no PRs found in this repo as of September 2026.
